Word or phrase Definition
API An API (Application Programming Interface) is like a messenger that allows different software applications to communicate and interact with each other. It defines a set of rules and protocols for how different programs can request and exchange data or perform specific actions, making it easier to integrate and share information between applications.
Behavior tag Behavior tags let your tag any pages on your website that you want to track. This is a Classic Lucky Orange feature that has been replaced by our new Events, which expand the opportunities and tracking capabilities.
Benchmarks Benchmarks are a feature within Lucky Orange that allows users to classify their business, provide a conversion metric and select their currency. This information is collected for future enhancements to help users learn how their website's performances compare to similar sites. All identifiers are removed from this data to ensure the privacy and safety of our users.
Cache A website cache is like a temporary storage for web pages and their elements. When you visit a website, some data gets stored on your device. The next time you visit, the browser can load the stored data faster, reducing loading times. Caching helps improve website performance and user experience.
California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) The California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) is a law that enhances privacy rights and consumer protection for residents of California, USA. It grants consumers control over their personal data and requires businesses to disclose data collection practices, provide opt-out options, and safeguard consumer information.
Call to Action (CTA) A CTA (Call-to-Action) is a prompt on a website or advertisement that invites users to take a specific action. It could be a button saying "Sign up now" or "Buy now." CTAs help guide users to perform desired actions, like subscribing, purchasing, or exploring further, making the website more interactive and engaging.
Cards Lucky Orange Dash Cards are a feature of the Lucky Orange analytics platform. They provide summarized insights about user behavior on a website, presenting data in a visual and digestible format. Dash Cards offer quick access to key metrics, allowing website owners to understand user engagement and make informed decisions for optimization.
Console log A console log is a way for developers to display messages or information in their web browser's console. It helps with debugging and tracking what's happening in the code. Developers can use console.log() to output specific values, variables, or error messages to understand and troubleshoot their code.
Content Security Policy (CSP) A Content Security Policy (CSP) is a set of rules implemented by a website to control what content can be loaded and executed on that site. It helps protect against malicious scripts and attacks by specifying trusted sources for scripts, stylesheets, images, and other resources, enhancing the website's security.
Conversion Funnels Conversion funnels are a series of steps that track and analyze the journey users take on a website, from initial interaction to a desired action (conversion). It helps identify where users drop off and optimize the process to increase conversions, such as making a purchase or completing a form submission.
Cookies Website cookies are small text files stored on your computer by websites you visit. They help remember your preferences and track your activity, like login status or items in a shopping cart. Cookies enable a personalized browsing experience, but can also be used for targeted advertising or analytics purposes.
CSV file A CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file is a simple text file that stores tabular data, like a spreadsheet, using commas to separate values. Each line represents a row, and commas separate the columns. CSV files are commonly used for data exchange between different software applications and can be opened in programs like Excel. Lucky Orange provides data exporting through a CSV file.
DOM selector A DOM selector is an identifier for HTML elements used by developers to reference a certain element when writing code. Within Lucky Orange, our DOM selector makes it easy for you to select fields to add to a new form report as needed without requiring a developer.
Dynamic Dynamic refers to interactive heatmaps that are unique to Lucky Orange. You can interact with your website as heatmap data populates on top, such as drop-downs, hamburger menus and more.Unlike static heatmaps, which are common within the heatmap industry, dynamic heatmaps give you a real-time view of how users interact with your website. Static heatmaps show general trends over time whereas dynamic heatmaps capture the latest user behavior, giving you fresher insights to make immediate improvements and optimize your site for better user engagement. It's like having a live window into what your visitors are doing!
Element A website element refers to any individual component or piece of content that makes up a webpage. Examples include text, images, buttons, forms, menus, and videos. These elements are arranged and styled to create the overall design and functionality of a website, making it visually appealing and interactive for users.
Events Events let you "tag" specific webpages, elements and campaign URLs to monitor, track, analyze and communicate with visitors who triggered the event. For example, why do people rage click on that link? Are they navigating through the top or bottom CTA? Events replace behavior tags that were used in Classic Lucky Orange. The capabilities are great and better than ever. We have preloaded System Events and Integration Events to get you started. Events can also be used for our integrations.
Form A website form is a digital way for users to input and submit information to a website. It typically includes fields like name, email, and message, allowing users to send inquiries, subscribe to newsletters, or complete online transactions. Forms make it easy to collect and process user data for various purposes. Third party forms, such as HubSpot forms, are displayed in an iFrame which prevents apps like Lucky Orange from capturing data and interactions with the form.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a law that protects the privacy and personal data of individuals in the European Union (EU). It regulates how organizations collect, store, process, and share personal information. GDPR aims to give individuals more control over their data and requires businesses to handle it responsibly and securely.
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) GA4 (Google Analytics 4) is the latest version of Google Analytics. It provides advanced tracking and analysis of website and app data. It offers enhanced features like event-based tracking, cross-platform measurement, and AI-powered insights. GA4 helps businesses gain deeper understanding and make informed decisions based on user behavior and engagement data. It will be the primary Google Analytics reporting platform after Google Analytics Universal sunsets in July 2023.
Google Analytics Universal (UA) Google Analytics Universal Analytics is a popular web analytics platform. It tracks and reports website traffic, user behavior, conversions, and other valuable insights. It helps website owners understand their audience, measure marketing effectiveness, and make data-driven decisions to improve website performance and user experience. Google Analytics Universal won't be available for use after July 2023.
Google Tag Manager Google Tag Manager is a tool that simplifies the process of adding and managing tracking codes (tags) on a website. Instead of directly editing the website's code, you can use Tag Manager to easily deploy tags for analytics, advertising, or other purposes. It provides a user-friendly interface for managing various tracking tags in one place.
Heatmap Website heatmaps visually represent user behavior on a webpage, showing which areas receive the most and least attention. They use color-coding to indicate where users click, scroll, or hover. Heatmaps provide insights into user engagement, allowing website owners to optimize design and content placement for better user experience.
iFrame An iframe (Inline Frame) is like a window within a webpage that can display content from another website or source. It allows you to embed videos, maps, or other web pages into your own website. It's a way to show external content while keeping it separate from the main page. For example, the YouTube video that you have embedded on your website is embedded into an iFrame.
Key Events Key Events let you highlight the Events that mean the most to you. Key Events will display within the Visitors' Table if you have enabled that column. It also shows within each person's Visitor Profile should they trigger that Key Event.
Optimizable Segments Segments are groups of filters that are used to identify, monitor, analyze and engage with these visitors and customers. While you can customize these segments to meet your specific filtering needs, Lucky Orange provides pre-saved segments to help you get started and save you time. Specifically, we had preloaded Optimizable Segments for frustrated visitors, confused visitors, Survey respondents, visitors with Chat, bounced visitors and engaged visitors.
Pageview A pageview is a metric in web analytics that counts each time a web page is viewed or loaded by a user. It measures the number of times a page has been accessed, regardless of whether it's by the same user or multiple users. Pageviews help gauge website popularity and engagement.
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is personal data that can identify an individual. It includes information like full name, address, phone number, email, social security number, or financial details. Protecting PII is important to maintain privacy and prevent misuse or unauthorized access to sensitive personal information.
Rage Click A rage click happens when someone repeatedly and quickly clicks on a website element out of frustration or impatience. It usually occurs when a desired action or response isn't happening as expected. Rage clicking is an expression of frustration but doesn't typically resolve the underlying issue. A visitor may click repeatedly on a broken link, expressing frustration that it isn't working. Rage clicking can occur anywhere on a webpage.
Segment A Lucky Orange segment is a way to group and analyze specific subsets of website visitors based on certain filter criteria, such as location, behavior, or device. Segments help you understand and compare different groups of users, allowing you to tailor your website experience and marketing strategies to specific audience segments for better results. You can use Segments throughout Lucky Orange, including in the Visitors' table and through Surveys, Announcements and Chat Invites
Session A website session refers to a visitor's interaction with a website within a specific time period. It starts when a user enters the site and ends when they leave or remain inactive for a set duration. Sessions track user engagement, including pageviews, interactions, and actions, providing insights into website performance and user behavior.
Shaky Mouse Shaky mouse is a term used when visitors make rapid movements with their mouse or touchpad. It most commonly occurs when visitors are upset or frustrated. While it can happen due to hardware or software issues, it's most commonly found with frustrated users who are shaking their mouse while on your website.
Site A synonymous term for website.
Teal Pepper (Unique Identifier) Unique identifiers are a temporary name placeholder to identify your visitors and their Session Recordings until your visitors provide you with their names, whether that’s by becoming a lead, subscribing to your newsletter or checking out. Lucky Oranges uses randomized unique identifiers in the form of a color and vegetable/fruit. Examples can include Magenta Banana and Teal Pepper. 
Unique Visitor In analytics, a unique visitor refers to a person who visits a website within a specified time period. It counts each individual only once, regardless of how many times they visit or interact with the site. It helps measure the number of distinct individuals accessing the website, providing insights into user engagement.
URL A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the address of a specific webpage or file on the internet. It's like a digital street address that tells your web browser where to find the information you're looking for. URLs typically start with "https://" and are entered in the browser's address bar. The URL for Lucky Orange is https://www.LuckyOrange.com.
UTM UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) is a way to track and analyze the effectiveness of your online marketing efforts. It adds extra information to the URLs of your website links, helping you understand where your website visitors are coming from and which marketing campaigns are driving the most traffic and conversions.You create links with UTM parameters using a tool such as Google's Campaign Builder, including UTM Source. Possible UTM parameters include UTM Medium, UTM Campaign, UTM Terms and UTM Content. For example, your paid campaign on Facebook could include these UTM: https://www.yourwebsite.com/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=messenger&utm_campaign=springsale23.
Web page A web page is a single page within a website that you can view on your web browser. It's like a digital document with text, images, and links that you can click on to navigate to other pages or access different content. Webpages are the building blocks of a website. Think of it like a house. Just like there are rooms in a house, there are web pages in a website. For example, https://www.luckyorange.com/dynamic-heatmaps and https://www.luckyorange.com/live-chat are web pages within the https://www.luckyorange.com website.
Website A website is a collection of web pages that you can visit using a web browser. It's like a digital space where information, images, videos, and other content are stored and organized. Websites are created by individuals, businesses, or organizations to share information, sell products, or connect with people online. You access a website with a URL.
