How to install in Google Tag Manager

Google Tag Manager is a quick and easy way to place your Lucky Orange tracking code without having to access the source code of your website.  If you have Google Tag Manager, you can use it to install Lucky Orange for you with no additional backend development work required. This installation is available for all users including those on trial, free plan or an upgraded plan.

Helpful Tips

Installing Lucky Orange through Google Tag Manager requires you to have a Google Tag Manager account already set up for your website. To learn more about Google Tag Manager, visit Google’s help documentation.  

If you already have Google Tag Manager set up for your website, , you will need permission to:

  • Add tag templates
  • Add tags
  • Publish changes

Note: Publish rights are occasionally restricted by a company for certain members based on internal policies. Ensure that a colleague with publish rights is available to publish the changes to the workspace to complete the installation of Lucky Orange through Google Tag Manager.

How to install through Google Tag Manager

  1. Copy your Lucky Orange Site ID
  2. Log into your Google Tag Manager account
  3. Select your desired account and container. This will be confirmed at the top of your Google Tag Manager.
  4. Click on Templates from the left navigation
  5. Under Tag Templates, click Search Gallery 
  6. Either search or scroll to Lucky Orange by Lucky Orange. There is an unofficial Lucky Orange template created by a third party that will also show. You will only want to use our official template created by Lucky Orange. 
  7. Click on the Lucky Orange by Lucky Orange option to open the template information. This will include information regarding our template and its related permissions.
  8. Select the Add to workspace button in the upper right corner. This will open an additional pop-up to continue.
  9. When prompted, click Add. Once clicked, a prompt confirming that the template has been added to your workspace will show in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
  10. Go to Tags from the left navigation
  11. Select New to add a new tag
  12. Give the tag a name such as luckyorangecode. The best practices include to use lower case letters and no spaces. 
  13. Click within the Tag Configuration space to add a new tag
  14. Scroll to Custom and select Lucky Orange. Lucky Orange will only be visible if the template has been added as a tag template as outlined in previous steps. If Lucky Orange isn’t visible, repeat steps 4-9 to ensure it was added to your workspace.
  15. Paste your Lucky Orange Site ID into the tag field, “Lucky Orange Site ID
  16. Click on the Triggering space to open up available triggers
  17. Select the All Pages trigger. This will automatically add it to your tag’s triggering. 
  18. Click the Save button in the upper righthand corner
  19. There should now be 2 workspace changes, which includes the Lucky Orange template and the Lucky Orange tag. Proceed with publishing the changes to your workspace.

Once the changes are published, the Lucky Orange code should be added to your website. 

If you are a Lucky Orange Account Owner or Admin, you can verify the code was successfully placed by going to Overview in Lucky Orange. There you will find a Tracking Code card that includes a button to verify installation. Learn more here.
