What is a Conversion Funnel?

Conversion Funnels show you where your customers are leaving during your conversion process. Roles that can create Conversion Funnels include Account Owners, Admins and Creators.

In a Conversion Funnel, you are defining specific steps by either URL or Event. People will proceed through your funnel as they reach each step.

Note: Conversion Funnels will update to include past visitors based on your data storage limit; for most users this will be 60 days. Click here to learn more about data storage limits. If using an Event, it will only apply to people who triggered the Event since it was created.

How do I create a Conversion Funnel?

      2. Exact:  Select the desired URL from the “Select a URL” drop-down. This will automatically populate URLs for your webpages.
    2. By Event: Click on the dropdown to see a list of your Events. Key Events will be shown in color. Learn more about Events here.  Shopify users have additional checkout Events.

How do I refresh Conversion Funnel data?

In Lucky Orange, Conversion Funnel data updates when you open a conversion funnel. You'll see text next to the name of your funnel that tells you when your funnel data was last updated.

If you want to manually refresh the data, follow use one of the two methods outlined below.

From the Conversion Funnels summary page

From the Conversion Funnel table, identify your selected Conversion Funnel and click on the Refresh button, shown below.

This will  update the Conversion Funnel data. Once results have updated, the Results Captured column will say, "Data updated: Just now."

From a specific Conversion Funnel summary page

To the right of the Conversion Funnel row, click the Refresh button, shown below.

This will update data as reflected by the "Results Last Updated" text next to the refresh button.

Shopify Merchants: How can I use a Conversion Funnel to see drop off during checkout?

Even though Shopify’s privacy policy prevents non-Shopify Plus merchants from watching a Session Recording of someone checking out or analyzing a Dynamic Heatmap of the checkout page, you can still use Lucky Orange’s preloaded Events to spot someone who started, moved through and/or completed their checkout process.

Note: Shopify Plus merchants can access checkout data automatically once Lucky Orange is installed. Click here to learn more.

To use the Conversion Funnel, you can start with the default Conversion Funnel we have already prepared for you—called Shopify Checkout—or create your own. The pre-built Funnel follows this visitor journey:

  • Step 1: Product Viewed
  • Step 2: Cart Item Added
  • Step 3: Ordered

If you want to track other Shopify checkout-specific events, you'll need to modify the existing Shopify Checkout funnel.

  1. From the main Funnels page, click on the three dots next to the Shopify Checkout funnel
  2. Click on Edit Settings

  1. Click the Add Step button after Step 3.

  1. Switch the funnel step type from Page URL to Event by clicking on Event.
  2. In the drop down for Select Event, you'll want to add any or all of the events listed below as separate steps to your conversion funnel.
    1. Checkout Started
    2. Payment Information Submitted

To add one of these events, start typing the name of the word in the search bar above the list of events that opens after you click the drop down (see the image below). Click on the event once you see it appear to add it to your funnel. If you want to add more than one the above events to your funnel, you'll need to add an additional step to for each event by using the same process you just used.

  1. Because Conversion Funnels only include visitors who completed the steps in the exact order you've specified, you'll need to reorder your events so the Shopify Ordered event is the last step in your funnel. To do that, hover just to the left of the name of the step where your ordered event is. A box with six dots will appear that will allow you to drag-and-drop to order the event to the correct step in your funnel.

  1. Click the purple Save button in the upper right corner to finalize your changes. (You may have to scroll up to see the Save button.)
