How to set up Funnels
In this help document, you’ll find how to set up a Conversion Funnel and how to change the date range to see past visitor data.
What is a Conversion Funnel?
Conversion Funnels show you where your customers are leaving during your conversion process. Roles that can create Conversion Funnels include Account Owners, Admins and Creators.
In a Conversion Funnel, you are defining specific steps by either URL or Event. People will proceed through your funnel as they reach each step.
Note: Conversion Funnels will update to include past visitors based on your data storage limit; for most users this will be 60 days. Click here to learn more about data storage limits. If using an Event, it will only apply to people who triggered the Event since it was created.
How to create a Conversion Funnel
Creating a Conversion Funnel can be set up in minutes. If you’re a Shopify user, there will be a simple default Conversion Funnel preloaded for you.
- Navigate to Analytics from the left navigation
- Click on Funnels
- Select the New Funnel button
- Give your Funnel a name for internal reference and click the Next button
- Define your first two funnel steps
- By page URL:
- Contains: Paste part of a link into the field; This would be ideal for UTM parameters.
- Exact: Select the desired URL from the “Select a URL” drop-down. This will automatically populate URLs for your webpages.
- By Event: Click on the dropdown to see a list of your Events. Key Events will be shown in color. Learn more about Events here. Shopify users have additional checkout Events.
- Click Add Step to create additional steps in your Funnel. Two is the minimum number of steps required for a Funnel.
- Drag and drop steps to rearrange your Funnel steps
- To delete a step, hover over a specific step. Click on the trash can that will show on the right.
- Select the Done button
Your new Funnel should now display in the Funnels table.
Note: It can take up to a few minutes for Visitor data to appear in your Funnel.
How to modify the date range
- Navigate to Analytics from the left navigation
- Click on Funnels
- Select View Results to the right of the desired Funnel. By default, it will show data over 30 days.
- From the top of the results summary, click Visitors. It will show:
- Visitor name or unique identifier
- Date that they entered the funnel
- Which steps they completed
- A link to watch the visitor’s Session Recording
- In the upper right corner, click on the date selector
- From here you can refine the date range as desired, whether it’s over the last day or over 60 days. This will update the data shown in both the Visitors tab and the Summary tab.
