Use Lucky Orange with Shopify: Find trouble spots with Conversion Funnels

Even though Shopify’s privacy policy prevents you from watching a Session Recording of someone checking out or analyzing a Dynamic Heatmap of the checkout page, you can still use Lucky Orange’s preloaded Events to spot someone who started, moved through and/or completed their checkout process.

To use the Conversion Funnel, you can start with the default Conversion Funnel we have already prepared for you or create your own. The pre-built Funnel follows this visitor journey includes:

  • Step 1: Product Viewed
  • Step 2: Cart Item Added
  • Step 3: Ordered

Below we've outlined how to modify an existing Conversion Funnel or create a new one. Click here to skip ahead to two Conversion Funnel recommendations.

To modify your existing Conversion Funnel

  1. Click on Analytics from the left navigation
  2. Select Funnels
  3. Click “View Results” to the right of your desired Sales Funnel
  4. Your default funnel will include:
    1. Step 1: Product Viewed
    2. Step 2: Cart Item Added
    3. Step 3: Ordered
  5. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of your page and select Edit Settings
  6. Click + Add Step at the bottom of the funnel
  7. Select Event
  8. Use the drop-down to select your desired Event. We recommend:
    1. Checkout Started
    2. Payment Information Submitted
  9. Click Save to finalize your changes

With this in place, you will be able to see where people are falling off of the checkout process. For example, if you see people starting checkout but not submitting payment information, you may want to run a Survey asking people who return to their carts after starting to checkout what (almost) stopped them from checking out.

To create a new Conversion Funnel

  1. Navigate to Analytics from the left navigation
  2. Select Funnels
  3. Click on the + New Funnel located in the upper right corner
  4. Set up your funnel. You can use all Events or combine page URLs with Events. For example, the funnel above will show who visited your product pages, added an item to their cart, viewed their cart and started to checkout
  5. To modify the order of the steps, drag and drop the steps to a new position within the funnel
  6. When ready, click Done to save your funnel
