Using UTM parameters with Lucky Orange Announcements, Surveys and Chat Invites

Surveys, Announcements and Chat Invites helps you communicate and engage with your visitors. You can also base these communication efforts on UTM parameters by adding them as triggers. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Navigate to Communicate from the left navigation
  2. Begin creating your Survey, Announcement or Chat Invite
  3. Proceed through Step 1, which is creating the question (Survey), content (Announcements) or setup (Chat Invites)
  4. In Step 2: Trigger, select Advanced. By default, it will be set on Simple.

At this point, you have four possible triggers to use including Visited Page, Current Page, Segments and Events

Using Visited Page

This method lets you trigger it based on a page on your website that was visited during a person’s session. It won’t necessarily show on this web page but will be triggered based on it being included in the visitor’s navigation. The link with UTM parameters will bring them to a landing page, and this will then display as they move around your website.

  1. Select Everyone to open a list of trigger options
  2. Click on Visited Page
  3. Select Contains
  4. Paste your UTM parameter
  5. Decide how the visit occurred:
    1. Select Ever to trigger for anyone who visited that page at some point but not necessarily during their current session
    2. Select Current Visit to trigger for only those who visited that page during their current session.
  6. Repeat with AND or OR rules for additional segments or rules
    1. AND:  A visitor completes both/all rules. For example, the Survey, Announcement or Chat Invite would only show to the Spring23 ad set AND came from Facebook.
    2. OR: A visitor completes any of the set rules. For example, the Survey, Announcement or Chat Invite would show to anyone who is in the Spring23 ad set segment or came from Facebook, regardless of whether they occurred together.
  7. Proceed through the setup process

Using Current Page

This triggers for anyone who is currently on this page. Because you’re using UTM parameters with the Current Page trigger, it will trigger on the landing page or the initial page you set up with the UTM parameters.

  1. Select Everyone to open a list of trigger options
  2. Click on Current Page
  3. Select Specific URL
  4. Click Contains
  5. Paste your UTM parameter

Using Saved Segments

This method pulls on segments, or groups of filters, that were previously saved by you or another team member. Click here to learn more about using Saved Segments with UTM parameters.

  1. Select Everyone to open a list of trigger options
  2. Click on Segment
  3. From the associated dropdown, select your desired Segment
  5. Proceed through the setup process

Using Events

This method relies on a previously created Event for the UTM parameter. Click here to learn more about creating UTM-based Events.

  1. Select Everyone to open a list of trigger options
  2. Click on Event
  3. From the associated dropdown, select your desired Event
  4. Choose from the following options:
    1. Property
      1. Recommendation: Any Property
      2. What it is: This is an advanced feature for Custom User Data
    2. Occurred/Has not
      1. Recommendation: Occurred
      2. What it is: You can decide if it should show to people who did trigger this Event (occurred) or does not apply to people who trigger this Event (Has not).
    3. +1x:
      1. Recommendation: +1x
      2. What it is: This selects the number of times a person triggers the Event. For UTM parameters, +1x is best.
    4. Ever/Within/Between:
      1. Recommendation: Ever
      2. What it is: You can limit the date range if desired within the last X days (Within) or designate that the Event occurred within two dates (between).
