How to filter Form Analytics by device and segmentation

How to filter by segments within Form Analytics

Within Form Analytics, you can use segmentation, which are filters you can add to get as broad or as granular as you need to better understand people on your website. When segmentation is added, your Form Analytics report and Dynamic Heatmap overlay will update to meet

Note: The segments filter within Form Analytics isn’t linked to the Segments within the Lucky Orange app. Segments created in the Visitor’s Table or Settings won’t be available in Form Analytics.

To open segmentation:

  1. Click on the Segments icon in the upper left corner of the Form Analytics
  2. Select from the available filters (mentioned below)

Standard segmentation filters

  • Date: Refines the data by specific date ranges. By default, data will be shown over a 30-day period unless your data storage has been updated. Enabled historical view to evaluate data on a previous website or form design.
  • Source: Shows how people came to your website, such as through a PPC campaign or organic Google search
  • Medium: Automatically lists the mediums of your traffic, such as search, social media or an email campaign

Visitor-based segmentation filters

  • Browser: Shows the browser type and browser version of visitors
  • Operating system: Shows the operating system information of visitors
  • Country: Lists what countries your visitors are currently based in
  • Region name: Depending on your visitors’ locations, this will break down geographic locations further
  • Number of visits: Displays the visit numbers of your visitors and customers

How to filter by Events

Events let you better understand what someone did on your website based on their behavior and engagements. You can create your own Events or use preloaded System Events to search for specific Events within your Form Analytics.

Within Form Analytics segmentation, you can refine data by those with or without Events available in the drop-down.

For example, you could filter your Form Analytics report by the Event Added to Cart to see the abandonment rate of people who were engaged with your products to compare with those who aren’t.

How to save your segmentation from Form Analytics

If you have selected various filters and want to be able to save this filter selection to use on this or other Form Analytics or Dynamic Heatmaps at a later date, you can save it as a segment for easier filtering in the future.

To use the saved segment, scroll through the segmentation options and click on the drop-down under Options. You’ll be able to quickly load that segmentation again in the future.

  1. Click on the blue Save this segmentation button located under Options
  2. When prompted, give it a name
  3. Select Save

Note: This saved segment will only be available to you and not accessible to the rest of your team. This segmentation is only for use within Dynamic Heatmaps and Form Analytics and won’t be available elsewhere within the Lucky Orange app.

How to filter by device

By default, Form Analytics will display data and the view of desktop visitors. However, your visitors likely come from a variety of devices.

In addition to filtering data by device type, changing the device type will enable you to view your website by device type. When mobile or tablet device types are selected, the page will automatically resize to display your webpage as that device type.

For example, if you filtered your form by mobile devices, the entire viewable form and web page will adjust to display in mobile dimensions to show you how visitors see it.

Note: Adjusting the device type will filter the clicks/taps for the device you’ve selected.

  1. Click on Devices icon, located in the upper left corner of Form Analytics
  2. Select your desired Device type (Desktop, tablet or phone) to see traffic using that device
  3. Once your Device type has been selected, the Form Analytics report will automatically adjust to the size and dimensions of that device. You can also customize the width and height as needed.

What does it mean to emulate a mobile device?

Some websites rely on the browser’s user agent rather than the browser’s size to show a mobile version of their website.

A user agent is a bit of text that the browser uses to identify itself when loading the website. In other words, as a visitor’s browser connects to your website, the user agent is a way for the browser to tell the website, “Hey there! I’m Chrome on Windows.”  Want to learn more about user agents? Click here to learn more from How-To Geek.

Emulating the mobile device lets you see the mobile version of the website for better analysis and viewing. The only time you will likely need to use this feature is to segment down to the mobile version and the Form Analytics  display isn’t displaying the website as you expected.

To enable this setting:

  1. Open the Device type if you haven’t already done so
  2. Select the checkbox next to Emulate mobile devices
