How to create a Zap

Click the image above to walk through a clickable tour of passing events from Lucky Orange into Zapier.

Once you connect your Zapier account with Lucky Orange, you can start to create Zaps. Zaps connect another app, such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Outlook, with Lucky Orange to pass information from one app to the other.

Note:  Anonymous visitors who complete a Zap action don’t automatically become an identified visitor within Lucky Orange. To identify a visitor that you see in the table within Visitors with your visitor from connected Zap, you must first identify the visitor on your website using the Lucky Orange JavaScript API to associate the visitor with a user ID.

How to create a Zap

  • Log into your Zapier account if you have not yet done so
  • Use the + button in the upper left corner of Zapier to start the process
  • OR navigate to home and select "Zap" located under "Start from scratch"

From here you can create a Zap that sends information from Lucky Orange into another app or one that sends information from another app into Lucky Orange.

To send information from Lucky Orange into another app

Example: You want to add a row in a Google Sheets document for each new visitor who rage clicks.

  1. Click on Trigger to begin
  2. Search for Lucky Orange and select it from the dropdown
  3. From the Trigger Event dropdown, select New Event
  4. Select your Lucky Orange account if you haven't yet already done so
  5. Click the Continue button
  6. Select your site from the dropdown. This populates from the sites associated with your Lucky Orange login information.
  7. For Event Name, select your Event from the Event Name drop down that you want to pass into the connect app. Events can be system-based (e.g., auto fill or rage click), feature-based (e.g., survey responded or conversation rated), internal events-based (e.g., session created or recording started), integration-based (e.g., cart item added or Google Optimize detected) or custom added (e.g., engagement on a certain button or element).
  8. Click the Continue button
  9. Click the Test trigger button to confirm that the trigger is set up correctly; this should take only a few seconds.
  10. Select one of the records that was found during testing
  11. Click Continue with selected record button
  12. Next you'll connect it with the app you want to connect with Lucky Orange. Search for that app and select it from the list. For example, we would want to find Google Sheets.
  13. Under Action event, use the dropdown to select what happens when the Event you selected on Step 7 is triggered. For example, if you were connecting with Google Sheets, you could create a new spreadsheet row in your desired Google Sheets file.
  14. Select your connected app account. For example, if we are using Google Sheets, we will need to link Zapier to our Google account.
  15. Click the Continue button
  16. Configure the action. This will be dependent on the app itself. For example, if connecting with Google Sheets, you would select the desired drive, spreadsheet and worksheet.
  17. Select the continue button to proceed to testing. Once tested, you can publish your Zap and begin to pass Lucky Orange events into your desired connected app.

To send information from another app into Lucky Orange

Example: You want to send visitor information from Microsoft Outlook emails into Lucky Orange.

  1. Search for the app you wish to pass information from and select it from the dropdown

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions

  3. Click the Continue button
  4. When prompted to complete the Zap’s action, search for Lucky Orange and select it from the dropdown
  5. Select your Lucky Orange account and site.

From here you can make it do one of the following:

  • Identify Visitor: This will pass the information into Lucky Orange as custom event data. You will find it in the visitor's profile as well as available through filters.
  • Creates Event: This will create a new event that triggers within Lucky Orange

To identify a Visitor: Configure

1. Add custom visitor data. For example, let's say you want to specifically identify customers who left you a review. If you use a tag for "review" within your Microsoft Office email platform, you can create a coordinating tag to represent it.

2. Add an External User ID. This will be used to connect the visitor to your Lucky Orange system. Examples include IP address or customer email.

3. Click the Continue button

4. Test your Zap and confirm the action within Lucky Orange. An easy way to test is to open the user's profile to see if the custom data has been added to the profile. This will be located under the user ID to the left of the profile.

5. Return to Zapier to publish the Zap

To Create an Event: Configure

  1. Under "Event Name," type "/" to begin mapping it to your available properties. In this case, we're going to use a Tags.
  2. Add an external ID. Type "/" to again see properties. Typically this will include identifying attributes such as an email address, IP address, etc.
  3. Click the Continue button
  4. Test your Zap and confirm the action within Lucky Orange. Go to Analytics > Events > Event Manager to see your new event.
  5. Return to Zapier to publish the Zap
