What are Custom In-App Notifications

Default In-App Notifications are built to alert you with an audible sound or banner when common events occur. This includes:

  • When a visitor arrives on your website 
  • When a visitor begins to Chat, whether through a Chat Invite or initiated through the Chat icon on your website, based on your availability
  • When a visitor replies to a previous Chat
  • When someone within your organization sends you a direct Chat message

While these notifications address the most popular events our users want to track, we also offer Custom In-App Notifications to create the alerts you want and need.  

How to set up Custom In-App Notifications

Note: All in-app notifications, whether they are custom or not, are unique to each team member and can’t be shared across the team. These are triggered by Events. Click here to learn more about Events.

  1. Navigate to Settings from the left navigation
  2. Select Notifications from the menu
  3. Click the purple Create Custom Notifications button at the bottom of the page
  4. Pick one or both types of notifications:
    1. Banner: If selected, enter a Banner Message (e.g., “Someone made a purchase). Click the Preview button to give your Banner Message a test drive. 
    2. Audio Alert: If selected, select a Chime Audio from the list of 17 sounds. Click the play button to preview the sound.  
  5. Click the purple Save button

How to edit a Custom In-App Notification

  1. Navigate to Notifications (Settings > Notifications) if you haven’t already done so
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see Custom In-App Notifications
  3. From the list of Custom In-App Notifications, click the pencil icon to the right of the notification you want to edit. The Custom In-App Notification details will show below the specific notification.
  4. Change the customizations as necessary
  5. Select the purple Update button to save your changes

How to pause or delete Custom In-App Notifications

  1. Navigate to Notifications (Settings > Notifications) if you haven’t already done so
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see Custom In-App Notifications
  3. To pause a single Custom In-App Notification, click the toggle to the left of the desired Custom In-App Notification. 
    1. It will show in blue when enabled
    2. It will show in gray when paused
  4. To pause all Custom In-App Notifications, click the toggle to the right of the Custom In-App Notification section
  5. To delete the Custom In-App Notifications, click the trash can icon to the right of the desired Custom In-App Notification you want to remove

Example of Custom In-App Notifications

This notification will trigger both a banner and an audible chime whenever a visitor adds a product to their cart. You can customize both the banner message and audio as desired. With this setting, when someone adds a product to their cart, this will show as the audio chimes:
