How to set up alerts & notifications

Knowing when someone has arrived on your website or replied to a chat can help you spot struggling visitors and keep them on your website as you answer their chat. To make this easier than ever, Lucky Orange In-App and Desktop Notifications can be enabled to notify you of these and other activities.

What are In-App Notifications?

Notifications are fully customizable by any team member. The notification preferences are unique to you and won’t be shared across the team. In-App Notifications include:

  • When a visitor arrives on your website
  • When there’s an incoming chat and you’re available to chat
  • When there’s an incoming chat and you aren’t available to chat
  • When there’s a new reply from a previous chat conversation
  • When you receive a direct message from a team member within your organization

When enabled, you can select to be alerted via audio and/or banner notifications.

Audio notifications, identified by this icon, are useful when you need to keep an eye on your site or chat while multitasking. This may mean that you aren’t on the same tab as Lucky Orange or are busy with other activities near the computer. When the visitor activity is triggered, you’ll be alerted via an audible tone.

Banner notifications, identified by this icon, are useful when you’re within the Lucky Orange app and need to be alerted of incoming notifications such as a new chat message or a chat reply even as you are in other features, like a Session Recording. This will display a small banner in the upper right corner of your app when the visitor activity is triggered.

Note: Banner notifications don’t display in Dynamic Heatmaps or Form Analytics. To ensure alerts when using these features, we recommend enabling audio notifications and activating Desktop Notifications.

How to set up In-App Notifications

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Click on Notifications
  3. If the toggle switch to the right of In-App Notifications isn’t active, toggle it on; it will display in blue with an “Active” label.
  4. Select the In-App Notifications of your choice by toggling the button to the left of the name; this can be as many or few as you would like.
  5. To edit the method, click the pencil icon that will display when you hover over the notification or on the icons on the left. Click the purple Apply button when finished with your type of notification preference.

What are Desktop Notifications?

Desktop notifications will display visual notifications regardless of whether you’re in the same tab as the dashboard or not.

This is a browser-specific setting that will alert you when any of these notifications have been triggered:

  • When a visitor arrives
  • When there’s an incoming chat and you’re available to chat
  • When there’s an incoming chat and you aren’t available to chat
  • When there’s a new reply from a previous chat
  • When you receive a direct message from a team member within your organization

Unlike In-App Notifications, Desktop Notifications can’t be customized which notifications you want to be shown. When Desktop Notifications are enabled, you will receive all notifications.

How to set up Desktop Notifications

  1. Navigate to Settings and click on Notifications if you aren’t already done so
  2. Toggle the button to the right of “Desktop Notifications”
  3. Click the gray Request Browser Permission and follow the prompts in your browser. It should display a permission box typically at the top of your browser

Note: Internet Explorer doesn’t support web notifications and can’t be used for Desktop Notifications.
