Using Event Manager and Event Log in your Shopify Admin
Events let you track specific visitor actions on your site — from page visits to clicks to checkout steps — all from inside your Shopify Admin. This doc covers where to find Events, how to create and manage them, how to review individual event occurrences, and which Shopify-specific events Lucky Orange tracks automatically.
Where to access Events
How do I get to Events?
- From your Shopify Admin, find Apps in the left navigation and click Lucky Orange.
- In the expanded menu, click Events.

What will I see on the Events page?
You'll land on the Events Manager tab by default. There's also an Events Log tab next to it — more on that below.
Using the Events Manager
What does the Events Manager show me?
The Events Manager only lists events that have triggered at least once. Each row shows:
- Event — the event's name
- Type — whether it's a System Event, Integration-specific Event, or a Custom (user-created) event
- Event Value — an editable monetary value field
- Occurrences (Last 7 Days) — how many times the event has fired in the past week (this can show 0 if it hasn't triggered recently, even if it has triggered in the past)
- Key Event — a lightning bolt icon appears here if the event is marked as a Key Event
- View Details — opens the event's settings

A search and filter control sits in the top-right of the table if you need to find a specific event.
How do I create a new event?
Click Add New Event in the top-right corner of the page. The builder has two steps:
Step 1: What should trigger this event? Choose the type of action your event should be tied to:
|
Trigger |
Tracks based on |
Example |
| Page Visit | Visitors landing on a specific URL, including UTM parameters | www.site.com/offer?utm_source=facebook |
| Element Interaction | Visitors interacting with a specific HTML element | A specific call-to-action button |
| API | Custom-set parameters via the Lucky Orange API | A "customer account created" event |
Then name your event and, for Page Visit events, choose Contains (paste part of a URL — ideal for UTM parameters) or Exact (select from your site's URLs) and enter the URL.
Step 2: Assign a monetary value Decide whether this event should be a Primary Conversion (only one event can hold this designation at a time) or Secondary Conversion (you can have multiple), and whether it should be marked as a Key Event. If marking it a conversion, you can also set a Monetary Value — this populates the Visit Value column in Session Recordings whenever the event happens in a visitor's session.

Click Save to finish.
How do I edit an existing event?
Click View Details next to any event in the Events Manager. This opens Event Settings, where you can adjust Primary Conversion, Secondary Conversion, and Key Event toggles, update the Monetary Value, add an Event Description, or click Delete to remove the event entirely.

Using the Events Log
How do I get to the Events Log?
Click the Events Log tab next to Events Manager.
What does the Events Log show me?
While the Events Manager gives you a running summary per event, the Events Log shows every individual occurrence. Each row shows:
- Event — the event's name
- Type — System Event, Integration-specific Event, or Custom
- Date/Time — when it happened
- Visitor — who triggered it
- A play icon to watch the session recording where it occurred
- View Details — opens more information about that specific occurrence

What do I see when I click View Details on an event occurrence?
A modal opens with three tabs — Instance, Summary, and Raw Data. The Instance tab shows how long ago it happened, a Watch Session link, the visitor's info, and any instance-specific data captured with the event — for example, click coordinates (c.x, c.y) for a Rage Click, or the element clicked (e.tag, e.text) for an Element Interaction event.

Shopify events Lucky Orange tracks automatically
If you're a Shopify merchant with the Lucky Orange integration connected (this happens automatically if you installed Lucky Orange through the Shopify app marketplace), the following events are captured for you without any setup:
|
Shopify Integration Event |
Definition |
| Recording Started | A visitor viewed your page, which started a Session Recording |
| Searched | A visitor used your on-site search (excludes search engines and off-site organic search) |
| Collection Viewed | A visitor viewed a collection page |
| Product Viewed | A visitor viewed a product — fires for every product viewed |
| Cart Item Added | A visitor added a product to their cart — fires for each item added |
| Cart Item Removed | A visitor removed a product from their cart — fires for each item removed |
| Cart Viewed | A visitor viewed their cart, regardless of whether it contains items |
| Checkout Started | A visitor began the checkout process |
| Checkout Address Info Submitted | A visitor submitted their mailing address during checkout |
| Checkout Shipping Info Submitted | A visitor selected a shipping rate after providing contact and delivery info |
| Payment Information Submitted | A visitor successfully submitted their payment information |
| Checkout Contact Info Submitted | A visitor submitted the completed checkout form. If payment is approved, "Ordered" fires next |
| Ordered | A visitor successfully completed checkout |
Why do these matter if I'm not on Shopify Plus?
Shopify's privacy restrictions prevent non-Plus merchants from viewing Session Recordings or Dynamic Heatmaps on the checkout page. The bolded checkout events above give you an alternative way to track a visitor's journey through checkout, even without direct visibility into the recording itself. Shopify Plus merchants get full checkout tracking automatically once Lucky Orange is installed.
